How to Keep Your Carpet Clean

Keeping your carpets clean is an age-old problem that we’re all familiar with. When you notice a stain, it’s only natural to try and get rid of it, whether it’s using white wine on red wine stains or frantically scrubbing when people are on their way round.

However, you don’t always need to resort to these measures. Read on for our handy guide to keeping your carpets clean.

Tackling the problem early

The best way to keep your carpets clean is to prevent dirt, debris and stains from occurring in the first place. By taking a few simple steps, you can keep your home and your carpets clean all year round.

Doormats at every entrance

One of the easiest ways to prevent the transfer of dirt and debris onto your carpet is to place doormats at every entrance to your home. Perhaps even get two at each entrance, one inside and one outside to prevent transfer even further.

Remove shoes indoors

As well as encouraging guests to wipe their shoes on your doormats as they enter, you may want to employ a no-shoe rule indoors, avoiding dirt and debris being brought in from outside. Try wearing socks or house slippers when indoors to protect your carpets even more.

Clean stains straight away

The worst thing you can do to your carpet is to let stains fester and embed themselves in the fibres of your carpet. You may not notice every stain immediately, but it’s vital to tackle them straight away once you do spot them.

Regular cleaning

However hard you try, dirt and debris getting onto your carpets is inevitable. You simply cannot maintain a clean carpet without a regular clean.

Vacuum at least twice a week

It goes without saying, one of the easiest and best ways to keep on top of your carpet cleaning is with a vacuum. It’s worth investing in a good cleaner and giving each room a once over at least twice a week to keep your home looking its best.

Monthly deep cleans

As well as keeping on top of the vacuuming in your home, a monthly deep clean is a great way to leave your home looking – and smelling – clean. Baking soda, vinegar, rubbing alcohol and so many more household essentials can prevent carpet mould and give your carpet a fresh look.

Hire a professional

If you want to keep your carpet looking as good as new, a professional clean is the only way to achieve a perfect look. Once or twice a year, a deep professional clean is vital for preventing aging and discolouration.

At Clean & Dry Sheffield, we offer a variety of cleaning packages to make sure your carpets look and feel their best all year round.
